Scheduled to release in the first half of 2016

 I have just been reviewing information on the next release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 and wanted to share information regarding the new features with our Blog readers.

 Here is a review of the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 Features and Roadmap

Note: If you are still on Dynamics GP 2010, support for this version ended on 10/13/2015.

This means that you will no longer receive tax and year end updates.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 Features:

Below is a list of the planned to features that you can look forward to when Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 is released.


  • HTML 5 browser support
  • Control for managing HTML clients (think multi-tenant management)

Coming in the 1st half of 2016 we will see the release of Microsoft Dynamics 2016.

For those of you thinking about web client this update will be the new HTML5 web client which will display Dynamics GP forms as HTML5 pages.

Microsoft Dynamics GP users will be able to fully access the software from any device that supports HTML5 web browsers. The functions of Dynamics GP will be accessible from: Android tablet, OSX and Linux, and on any browser that supports HTML5. (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, to name a few).

The HTML5 web client is able to fully run Dynamics GP on tablets and other mobile devices by delivering only the top, visual interface to the device, while computing is still done at the server level.

The new web client is the result of one of Microsoft’s long term development goals that has been completed in stages through the past few GP releases. With various license types, choice of deployment, and now the ability to fully utilize GP on any device.


Core Enhancements

  • Purchasing Requisitions – Project Integration
  • HTTPS Support for Management Reporter Viewer

Microsoft GP 2016 will give users the ability to deploy Management Reporter for https access. This allows users to access reports over secure https communication.

  • Multiple Page Scan
  • Default EFT File Formats For Scotia Bank
  • Change Workflow Approval Conditions

This feature gives the user more control. Email notifications can be sent to the new approver for:

Delegation, Escalation, Alternate approval

  • Enable Credit card Payment Type for Check Run Processing
  • Increase Distribution Reference Field Size
  • Named User Licensing Support for Self Service User Type
  • Document Attach for Project Expenses


Business Intelligence

  • All-In-One Document Viewer for Inventory
  • All-In-One Document Viewer for Sales

This feature allows users to view all related sales documents for a single transaction in one window. This can be accessed from Customer Maintenance, many sales inquiry windows, navigation lists and the home page.

  • Export SmartList Numbers

Now numbers that are exported from Excel will be formatted as a number rather than text.

  • Export/Import SmartLists

In GP 2016, the user will be able to shave a little time off reporting with the functionality to export and import SmartList definitions created with a SmartList Designer from one install to another.

  • Creating a SmartList from an Existing Favorite

This feature reduces mouse-click in routine processes by allowing users to create a new SmartList from a favorite using Designer. Users will find it more convenient to not have to remove all of the extra columns from the default SmartList.

  • PowerBI charts on GP Role Center – On the Home Page

Get a quick snap shot of the data you care about most with this features that allows users to see Power BI Reports right from their home page.

Ease of Use

  • Remove Inactive Payroll Pay Codes
  • Simplify Payroll Posting Setup
  • Create Exception Report on Budget Import

When importing a budget from excel an exception report will print and display accounts that are setup in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016.

  • Simplify Analytical Accounting User Access Settings

Like all of the Microsoft Dynamics products, GP is a cloud ready, mobile ready solution. And cloud computing will continue be a major point of focus when Microsoft releases Dynamics GP 2016.
