Default Asset ID from Class
This new feature included in the GP 2013 R2 update allows you to default your Fixed Asset based on the Asset Class and specify the next Asset ID for each class.
Financial >> Setup >> Fixed Asset >> Class
(Information below is from Help Text)
Mark to use the next asset ID from the class as the default asset ID when assigning a new asset to the class.
Next Asset ID
Enter the next available asset ID to use in when assigning a new asset in the class. As you enter a new asset in the Asset General Information window or the FA PO Additional Information window, the number displayed here increases by one each time you use the default asset ID.
Be sure that the asset ID ends with a series of digits rather than letters. If you enter a next asset ID that ends in alphabetic characters, such as 8050AC, the system is unable to increment to the next ID and you’ll receive an alert message when entering assets in the Asset General Information window or the FA PO Additional Information window, stating that the asset ID cannot be generated. By defining the next number, you also are determining the number of unique asset IDs that will be available.
In my example above I have for Class ID Auto AUT100, then for Class ID COMP I used COM101. If you begin with 000 you’ll be able to enter up to 999 unique asset IDs.
This field is available if you have marked the Default Asset ID from Class option.
